  • Saucepan

  • 1 Can crushed tomato (1 Cup crushed tomato)
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste or ketchup
  • 4 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
  • 2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ Cup fresh basil leaves

  • Heat olive oil in a saucepan.
  • Add chopped garlic. Saute for 10 - 20 seconds to release the aroma and infuse the flavor in the oil. Add chopped onion at this stage and saute.
  • Add crushed tomato, tomato paste, salt, seasoning, and cook the sauce for 5 - 10 minutes or till thick with a spreading consistency. Turn off the heat.
  • Add fresh basil. Allow the sauce to cool down completely.
  • Store pizza sauce in a clean, dry container or use immediately.

  • I highly recommend using canned crushed tomatoes for making this sauce.
  • You can substitute tomato paste with tomato ketchup as well.
  • Adjust the quantity of garlic and other seasonings as per your taste preference.
  • Optional Ingredients: Butter, Chopped Onion, Black Pepper, Fresh Basil. Many of these ingredients are not added to an authentic pizza sauce. hence, you can happily skip them.
  • Store pizza sauce for a week in the refrigerator or freeze it.
  • To make vegan pizza sauce, do not add butter.
